Broomcottage is a family run business in Greyabbey, N.Ireland. It was established in 2006 when we moved to a small holding in Greyabbey in search of the “good life”. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and obtain the finest honey from our own bees. We have gradually built up a stock of farm animals. This enables us to produce our own quality meat products such as chicken, pork and lamb. We are now well to producing our own beef. We have five goats and enjoy fresh goats milk everyday making our own cheese and yogurt and are enjoying a high degree of self sufficency.

Part of this life style was to make our own soaps and cosmetics from totally natural ingredients and we now sell a range of products made using beeswax, honey and our own goats milk. We have recently increased our products to include a range of preserves using as much of our own naturally grown fruit and vegetables as possible.

Many commercial soaps are comprised of detergents containing harsh chemicals, cheap synthetic fragrances and animal fat lacking the main ingredient which moisturises the skin known as glycerine.  Broomcottage soaps are produced using a blend of vegetable oils and beeswax and are made using traditional methods and cured for four weeks to produce soap with a ph of between 7 and 8, which results in them being very gentle on the skin.  The soap made at Broomcottage retains the naturally occurring glycerine to moisturise the skin.

Beeswax is one of the oldest ingredients in cosmetic preparations having anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, anti-bacterial, skin softening and elasticity enhancing properties.  Beeswax rarely causes allergic reactions, is useful for sensitive and delicate skin and has similar protective properties as lanolin. The products have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties which helps in the healing and sterilising of damaged skin, promoting the growth of new skin.
